Simple Minds are announcing a whole new set of live dates this week and with plenty more to follow. I hope that will make a lot of people happy but none could be happier than we are with the announcements and if you read on you will discover why that is.
Possibly the question that has been put to me most over the last month or so as I have travelled round promoting the soon to be released Graffiti Souls album is: Could you have imagined over thirty years ago when you were starting out with Simple Minds that you will still be producing, creating and playing live shows – more than three decades later?
Than answer is that of course more than thirty years ago we would have had no idea or picture as to how things would pan out for the future. No one did. Additionally no one had heard of mission statements either. But we had ours and it applies as much now as it did then. It is this:
SIMPLE MINDS DESIRE TO BE KNOWN AS BEING ONE OF THE WORLDS GREAT LIVE ACTS – TO ACHIEVE THAT WE NEED TO GIVE 100% OF OURSELVES NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AND IN EVERY CORNER OF THE GLOBE.
It was very ambitious but in the end it was also the perfect goal for us. The on going remit could not have been clearer, and truthfully we had no idea how tough on our young shoulders a challenge of that sort would be. Neither were we aware of the amount of pleasure that we would have as we go about to this day trying to achieve it yet, night after, city after city, in front of audience after audience.
I am honestly ecstatic with the possibilities that will come with the tour .The old songs sound stronger than ever, and the new ones will be absolute killer. Believe me.
We will bound on stage every night with a ferocious hunger that is all to do with leaving no one in any doubt about what we are all about and in doing so throw a challenge out to every other band in the planet.
